The DUIR facilitates the students to achieve excellence in all round education. In this context, it endeavors to arrange and participate in a wide range of inter disciplinary seminars and workshops, where students remain at the focal point. In fact, these events not only provide a space for sharing knowledge and ideas but also create a bridge between different communities and generations.
However, the Department also has an active program of holding ‘DUIR Lecture Series’ where prominent personalities of diverse arena, from diplomats to businessmen, are invited to share their thoughts and disseminate experiences in front of the Nation’s future, the students. This initiative has been very successful since it provides the students the real taste of professional life and an outlook of the world ahead of them.

Few notable events of recent time include: round table dialogue on ‘Bangladesh-India Relations: Post Hasina-Manmohan Summit’ held in February, 2010 with Professor Dr. A.A.S.M Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka as the chief guest, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh as the special guest, Professor Veena Sikri, former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh and Professor Akmal Hussain, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka as main discussants; special seminar on ‘Migration Experience of Bangladesh and Pakistan’ held in March, 2010 with Professor Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka as the chief guest, Professor Dr. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka as the special guest and Professor Syed Sikander Mehdi, Faculty of Social Sciences, SZABIST, Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Syeda Rozana Rashid, Assistant Professor, Dept. of IR, University of Dhaka and Mr. Saimum Parvez, Lecturer, Dept. of IR, University of Chittagong as the main speakers; special lecture by Mr. Annisul Huq, President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry on ‘Business Connectivity in South Asia:

Problems and Prospects for Bangladesh’ held in May, 2010; special lecture by Ambassador Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, former Foreign Affairs Advisor, People’s Republic of Bangladesh on ‘Bangladesh-China: An Emerging Equation in Asian Diplomatic Calculations’ held in July, 2010; special lecture by Professor Masaaki Ohashi, Keisen University, Tokyo, Japan on ‘Japan’s Overseas Development Assistance in the 21st Century’; ‘First Annual Human Rights Study Session’ jointly organized by Nagorik Uddyog, Dhaka, Asian Institute for Human Rights, Bangkok, and Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, held from October 31 to November 11, 2010; special talk on ‘Regional Security Situation and Pakistan’ by Ashraf Qureshi, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh held in December, 2010.
