International Relations at University of Dhaka has an esteemed tradition and includes many distinguished scholars among its past and present faculties who have undertaken outstanding research works and consultancies. They also commissioned work in a wide range of fields, including politics, security, human rights, development, environment and gender. Many of our graduates find employment in these fields, within which we have very strong national and international networks.
Many of our graduates are working as civil servants in various ministries and departments of Bangladesh government, such as diplomats and desk officers in Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Some are serving at different capacities in a number of foreign missions or embassies. Global organisations like the United Nations, the World Bank, the European Union etc. have also been in the top career priorities for DUIR graduates. All over the world you can find DUIR alumni working in such organisations. Journalism has always proved to be another popular choice, either with newspapers, press agencies or as special correspondents for TV stations. Some graduates choose to stay in academia by undertaking further studies (PhD) and working as lecturers or researchers in public or private institutions. There is also an increasing trend for our students to aim for careers in NGOs and INGOs such as BRAC, Oxfam, Transparency International, International Committee of the Red Cross and so on.
